About The Cookbook

My cookbook project originally started when both my boys were young. My intention was to give them a collection of family recipes to take with them when they were ready to live on their own. Little did I know that it would have turned into the size it has over the years. This new online version is now the 10th edition and has become my Bible in the kitchen. I keep discovering so many new recipes that we love!

Today, I cook completely different from the way I did when my boys were young. When my oldest son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 16, I educated myself on healthy cooking and learned to choose “healthier” ingredients to help him control his blood sugars. I read many books and took various classes offered locally by area hospitals. Needless to say, I have changed my ways in the kitchen. I have become a “label” reader in the grocery store, shop the outside aisles first for fresh fruits and vegetables, lean cuts of meats, low-fat dairy, and only shop the center aisles for staples when needed for a recipe(s). I rarely use processed foods, cook from scratch, all baked goods are homemade and I now use healthier ingredients. Therefore, something positive did come out of a horrible disease diagnosis.

When I was growing up, my family was a meat and potato family. Our meals consisted of canned vegetables and fruit, dessert was a box cake mix, Jell-O or boxed pudding, and salad was made up of iceberg lettuce with French dressing only. I love good food, variety, like to try new foods, and that is why I invest the time and energy into cooking delicious, healthy meals for my family. I especially love our “Soup Sunday’s” throughout fall and winter.

This new web-based cookbook was a birthday gift to me in 2013, from my youngest son, who put in many hours developing and designing it for me and making it simple enough so that I can add and edit recipes easily. In 2021, it was enhanced to improve the end user experience across all the mobile devices that have become popular since its initial launch.

My online site contains recipes that I have accumulated over the years from cookbooks, classes, local newspaper, magazines, friends and family members, which we use all the time and have now become our “family favorites”. I hope that some of them will become your favorites as well!
