Known as the "cookie of all cookies" from Taste of Home.
½ c. butter, softened (see note below)
½ c. butter flavored shortening
1-1/2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
2 t. vanilla
2-1/4 c. unbleached white all-purpose flour
1 t. baking soda
¼ t. salt
1 c. English toffee bits
1 c. chopped pecans
1-1/2 c. semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
In a mixing bowl, using a hand held mixer, cream butter, shortening and brown sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
Combine flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix in by hand.
Fold in chocolate chips, toffee bits and pecans.
Refrigerate dough for a few hours before baking.
Drop by heaping tablespoons, 2-inches apart onto greased baking sheets.
Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool for 5 minutes on baking pans before removing to wire racks, lined with paper towel to absorb the grease.
