Made camping at Muskie campground June 2022.
These can be made ahead and frozen individually.
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 egg
1/4 c. freshly grated parmesan cheese
1/4 c. onion, finely chopped
1/2 t. dried basil
1/2 t. dried oregano
1/2 t. dried rosemary
1/4 t. fennel seeds
salt and pepper, to taste
4 slices provolone or mozzarella cheese
4 buns or bun toppers
¼ to ½ c. prepared pizza sauce (Pastorelli)
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, egg, parmesan cheese, onion, basil, oregano, rosemary, fennel seeds, salt and pepper.
Shape mixture into 4 equal sized patties, about ¼-inch thick. I freeze ahead of time (indivdually wrap); they tend to grill better.
GRILL:: Preheat grill to medium heat. Cook over direct heat, close lid and grill for 8-10 minutes, or until meat is fully cooked.
Just before patties are done cooking, toast buns on grill.
After grilling and patties are cooked through, turn off grill. Top each patty with about a tablespoon (or more) of pizza sauce, add a slice of cheese and close lid of grill until cheese melts.
Transfer patties to tasted buns and enjoy.
