Especially refreshing in summer!
You can grind your coffee beans at the grocery store, using their grinder.
3 or 4 c. cold water, personal (preference for strength)
1 c. (85 grams) coffee beans, coarse ground (I prefer flavored coffees, but plain works too)
basket-style coffee filters
fine mesh strainer
32 oz. mason jar or glass container for storage
milk
coffee creamer, flavored or plain (I use Califia Farms Almond milk, Coffee-mate Natural Bliss, Chobani Natural or Full Circle. My favorite flavors are hazelnut & salted caramel flavors).
Kahlua, Bailey's Irish Cream or other choice, for an adult beverage
flavored syrups (I don't use)
Grind whole coffee beans to a medium coarse consistency. Finely ground coffee doesn't work (tastes bitter). If you don't have a coffee grinder that does coarse grounds, you can grind it at the grocery store when purchasing.
Add the water and ground coffee beans to a large mason jar or other glass storage container. Then leave it on the kitchen counter or put in refrigerate to steep for 12-24 hours. The longer you steep, the stronger it becomes. I always do 24 hours.
DOUBLE STRAIN:
#1 - Strain the coffee mixture through a fine mesh strainer over a large measuring cup or bowl. Discard grounds.
#2 - Then rinse out your fine mesh strainer and place a basket-style coffee filter in it. Take the liquid you just strained and pour it through one more time into a large measuring cup or bowl. Discard coffee filter.
After straining twice, pour the double strained cold brew concentrate back into a clean mason jar and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
TO SERVE: Fill a tall glass with 2/3 ice. Pour cold brew concentrate over ice until glass is 2/3 full. Add a little of your favorite coffee creamer if desired. Stir and enjoy.
It is all about personal preference to get your desired taste. As the ice melts, the smoother the coffee will taste.
