1/2 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. shortening (Crisco butter flavored baking sticks)
1-1/2 c. white sugar
2 eggs
1/3 c. milk
1 t. vanilla
2 c. all-purpose unbleached white flour
3/4 c. baking cocoa
1/2 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
2 c. semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
1 c. dried cherries
In a large mixing bowl, cream butter, shortening and sugar. Beat in the eggs, milk and vanilla. By hand, stir in the flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt; add to the creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in chocolate and cherries.
Refrigerate dough for a few hours.
Drop by rounded tablespoons 2 inches apart onto baking sheets coated lightly with nonstick cooking spray.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 10-12 minutes. Do not over bake, or they will be dry. Start to check after 10 minutes.
Cool 1 minute before removing to wire racks lined with paper towel to absorb the grease.
