The perfect comfort food. If you like dill pickles, you'll love this recipe.
You can also use a pre-made pie crust
1⅓ c. unbleached all-purpose white flour
½ t. salt
½ c. shortening (not butter flavored)
3 – 6 Tablespoons water
1 lb. ground chuck or ground sirloin
¾ c. chopped onion
1 minced garlic clove
½ t. salt
3 Tbls. unbleached all-purpose white flour
⅓ c. dill pickle liquid
⅓ c. milk
½ c. chopped dill pickles
2 c. shredded cheddar cheese, divided
CRUST (see Note):
Mix together flour and salt. Cut in shortening. Add water, 1 tablespoon at a time, stirring with a fork after each addition. Mix until all flour is moistened and pastry forms a ball.
Pat pastry into a 9-inch pie pan.
Bake at 425 degrees (400 degrees for glass) for 15 minutes.
FILLING:
Cook ground beef with onions and garlic; drain grease.
Sprinkle with salt and flour. Stir in dill pickle liquid, milk, pickles and 1 cup cheese.
Spoon into pie pan and bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes.
Add remaining 1 c. cheese and bake 5 more minutes.
