The BBQ Sauce is amazing and super easy to make.
Could also be used for pizza sauce with shredded chicken to make a pizza or mixed with shredded chicken for sandwiches.

  • 1/3 c. quick-cooking oats

  • 1/4 t. onion salt

  • 1/4 t. garlic salt

  • 1/4 t. pepper

  • 1/8 t. salt

  • 1-1/2 lbs. lean ground chuck

  • 6 hamburger buns, split

  • Topping Choices: lettuce, pickles, cheese, onion etc.

Barbecue Sauce
  • 1 c. ketchup

  • 1/2 c. packed brown sugar

  • 1/3 c. sugar

  • 1/4 c. honey

  • 1/4 c. molasses

  • 2 t. prepared mustard

  • 1-1/2 t. Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/4 t. salt

  • 1/4 t. liquid smoke

  • 1/8 t. pepper

Instructions

BBQ SAUCE: In a small saucepan, combine the sauce ingredients. Bring to a boil, stirring with a wire whisk (it will thicken a bit). Remove from heat. Set aside 1 cup of the barbecue sauce to serve with burgers.

BURGERS: In a large bowl, combine the egg, oats, 1/4 cup barbecue sauce, onion salt, garlic salt, pepper and salt. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well. Shape into six patties and place on a platter. Cover with saran wrap and refrigerate a few hours to firm up.

Grill burgers, covered, over medium heat for 6-8 minutes on each side or until a thermometer reads 160 degrees. Baste with 1/2 cup barbecue sauce during the last 5 minutes. If desired, add a slice of cheese just before taking burgers off the grill. When cheese is melted remove burgers to a platter for serving.

Serve burgers on buns with toppings of your choice and reserved barbecue sauce.

NOTE: Makes 6 burgers
